The Annual Peace Service is held in the Banqueting Room at Leeds City Hall in conjunction with the Leeds Peacelink Group. The Lord Mayor or a Councillor shares in the service. The Lord Mayor or a Councillor lights a candle on behalf of all the people of Leeds from the World Peace Flame. Other candles are lit on behalf of the Baha'i, Buddhist, Brahma Kumari, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan and Sikh communities, and there is a reading from each of these faiths. The audience joins in prayers and words of commitment to peace and justice. Sacred music is performed by groups from different faiths. In recent years pupils from City of Leeds School (now Academy) have read poems.
